Moat Coloured Ryeland Sheep
Our Coloured Ryeland flock holds the prefix of Moat with our pedigree number of 439C
Ryeland sheep can sometimes produce coloured offspring. These individuals don’t carry the gene for whiteness and when bred with another Coloured Ryeland will always produce coloured lambs. The fleece of these sheep can vary from the palest silver to the darkest brown or black; with uniform or patchy colours being seen. A separate register for Coloured Ryeland sheep was formed in 1989 by the Ryeland Flock Book Society allowing pedigree registration of coloured individuals. Today Coloured Ryeland sheep are popular amongst smallholders, farmers and wool producers. Our coloured breeding flock has been slowly grown using quality foundation ewes from well-established bloodlines as well as retaining our own stock.
